With her team’s victory song still echoing round Toowoomba Sports Ground, Highfields Eagles captain Tee Rogers made a bold statement on Sunday.

“We’re ready to go again,” she said after Eagles massive 44-0 Toowoomba Rugby League Women’s grand final win.

“We’ve got back to back wins and we’re going again, we’d love to win a third.

“It’s a great result for everyone, the whole club. Everyone, the players, volunteers, we’ve all worked for this.”

Kicking off to start the game, Oakey were immediately on the back with the ‘game starter’ failing to carry 10m.

Highfields capitalised on the error with Tayla Horrobin crossing for Eagles first try a minute into the game.

It was all one way traffic from there with Eagles flying away to a 20-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of the game.

Any hope Oakey had of getting back into the match evaporated just minutes before halftime when one of their players was sent from the field.

It is believed the Bears interchange player was sent off for striking.

Taking a 24-0 lead and player advantage into the second half Highfields ran away with the match.

Oakey showed a willingness to compete and battle in patches during the second half but never really troubled the Eagles defence.

Despite the lopsided scoreline, Rogers found praise for the beaten Bears side.

“It was hard Oakey gave it to us, they ripped in but we dug deep,” she said.

“The girls put in the effort for each other to earn that win.

“All season we’ve had the focus whether you’re on the field or off you’ve got a job to do.

“Everyone did that (their job) today, nothing changed in this game we stuck to it and got the win.”
