FQPL Far North & Gulf

Headlining round four FQPL Far North & Gulf action is a Friday night belter between an early season bolter and last season’s benchmark side.

Reigning premiers and 2023 champions Leichhardt FC head to Calanna park to face the unbeaten Redlynch Strikers.

Redlynch sit on two wins from two, with the clash against the Lions a test of their premiership and finals credentials following wins over Stratford Dolphins and Mareeba United.

Leichhardt on the other hand will be keen to kickstart their title defences with a strong performance after wet weather has meant they’ve gone four weeks without a competitive FQPL fixture.

Redlynch Strikers’ Georgia Strahan has been very impressive to start the season, notching up four goals to lead the golden boot race after round three and will need to play a key role if the Strikers are to defeat the Lions.

Get down to Calanna Park from 8.30pm Friday to catch all the action as the Strikers are put to the test by last season’s dominant force, the Lions.

Gold Coast

Gold Coast United find themselves in the top two of the NPL Women after six rounds but will be looking to get back in the winners’ circle as they take on Sunshine Coast Wanderers this Saturday.

United will head up the M1 for the Round 7 clash off the back of two losses from their last two games, including a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Eastern Suburbs over the weekend.

With four wins to their name so far in 2024, they should bring plenty of confidence that they can turn their form around as they face a Sunshine Coast side who has recorded just one win this season, back in the opening round.

Momo Hayashi and Bronte Rose have been strong threats in front of goal for the 2023 grand finalists and could play a key role for the visitors in this weekend’s coast versus coast battle.

Fresh off the back of a strong 4-1 win over Caboolture FC on Sunday, the hosts can bring themselves to equal points with their top-placed opponents if they secure victory over the high-flying St George Willawong side.

Recording three wins and one draw this season, Broadbeach will have plenty of motivation to topple their so far undefeated visitors this Sunday.

Sunshine Coast

As we pass through the first month of the FQPL Sunshine Coast season, there’s still plenty of unknowns about who the contenders will be in a few months’ time.

Headlining the round five action is a women’s clash that promises to be a nailbiter between two impressive and well-drilled sides, both with finals and premiership ambitions, the Woombye Snakes and reigning Premiers Beerwah Glasshouse.

Woombye have impressed over the first four weeks, with two wins and a narrow 2-1 loss to the undefeated Noosa Lions in that stretch.

A win over Beerwah Glasshouse will be a huge boost to their finals and premiership credentials.

Beerwah Glasshouse on the other hand have slipped to one win from three matches, with losses against rivals Maroochydore FC (3-2) and Noosa Lions (4-2) not cause for concern, but they wouldn’t want to lose another to another finals hopeful in the Snakes.

Mind you Noosa and Maroochydore both sit on four wins from four matches and look the runaway premiership favourites at this stage.

The key matchup in Friday’s fixture is undoubtably between the Snakes and BeeGees attackers, with the Snakes Georgia Dixson and BeeGees Melissa Weckert sharing the top of the Golden Boot leaderboard with four goals apiece.

Make sure you get down to Woombye Snakes FC at 8.30pm to catch what shapes as a hugely important fixture for both sides.
