FOOTBALL: South West Queensland Thunder coach Scott Teakle often finds himself a little perplexed after his side's games.
The young NPLW side has matched wits with their more fancied opponents on numerous occasions, but when the mistakes come they can be big.
The Thunder's 9-1 loss against the Logan Lightning on Saturday was a prime example.
"I thought we were the far better team for the first 15 minutes of the game," Teakle said.
"We were camped in their half and created some good chances - we just couldn't score.
"Then we made a small mistake, compounded it by conceding a goal and we fell away.
"They scored three goals really quickly and took the game away from us.
"It just seems to be how our season goes. When we make a mistake we struggle to adjust quickly enough - we the slide happening but we can't stop it."
Despite their occasional short comings on the park the Thunder coach has never questioned the dedication of his squad.
"We regularly have more than 20 players showing up to training," Teakle said.
"Even over the last few weeks when our younger players have been juggling school exams they've still been very committed.
"It's just a matter of them applying what we're focussing on at training during games.
"More recently we've changed things up a little bit.
"We're involving the players more in the training process.
"Posing the problems to them and having them lead the solution process. The goal is to get them even more invested in the side."
The Thunder women are the road this weekend, kicking off their match against Gold Coast at 5.30pm Saturday.
The Thunder men play host to Olympic FC from 5pm.
