MOTORSPORT: Today will be very important for Cameron Shields.

Racing at South Australia's The Bend Motorsport Park, Shields will draw heavily on the knowledge of his race crew and teammate as he prepares for another weekend of Formula Ford action.

The Bend is the world's second longest, purpose-built race track and has been open since April.

"Qualifying will be very important,” Shields said.

"A lot my competitors raced there recently so they will have a bit more knowledge than me.

"My team has some data though and my teammate has raced on the track so I'll draw on their experience.”

Currently running ninth in the championship, Shields is keen to close the gap on his rivals and The Bend could be the perfect place for it.

"I'm currently ninth in the championship,” Shields said.

"I had to miss the last round because of other racing commitments - before that I was running third.

"It (The Bend) looks like a fast track.

"There will be plenty of opportunities for passing which makes for exciting racing.

"It will be a good chance for me to test all my skills.”
