HARNESS RACING: Dayl March knows a thing or two about success in the sulky, and he is hoping one of his leading standardbreds can secure his home cup.
Veteran gelding Our Major Day will be targeted at the Warwick Pacing Cup (1950m) on Sunday week.
A winner of 18 of his 102 starts, the gelding was a winner at Allman Park’s last harness meet in 2017.
Our Major Day was a last-start winner at Albion Park on Tuesday, and March hopes he can carry that form over to Warwick.
“He’s been really good to us,” March said.
“He’s creeping up to $150,000 (in prizemoney) and is getting close to 20 wins. He won on Tuesday and I’m very happy with him.”
The opportunities to race on the grass are limited in Queensland, and March said Allman Park offered a unique experience and provides something out of the norm.
“We’ve only got Albion Park, Redcliffe and the odd Marburg meet, so this just offers up something different,” he said.
“They say it’s horses for courses. Some go better on the grass and some may even go better right-handed.
“You tend to get your chances on the track. It’s a big, long straight here in Warwick.
“I don’t mind the grass. It can be a bit bouncier, but I have no dramas with it. The track looks in great order.”
Tickets for the December 6 meeting can be purchased on eventbrite.com.au.
