With a finals berth still a genuine possibility, the Pittsworth Danes have everything to play for this weekend.

On the right side of a 30-16 scoreline back in Round 3, the Danes will be looking to emulate their early season success against the Oakey Bears again.

“We had a big win over Highfields last round and now we just need to continue to build on that momentum up at Oakey this weekend,” Danes’ coach James Quinn said.

“We have been in the fight for a lot of our games this year and I know that this round will be no different.”

With his side coming off the back of a 48 point win last round, Quinn is happy with the Danes attack but defensively there’s room for improvement.

“Aside from us firing in attack, I thought it was probably one of our best defensive games all season,” he said.

“We aren’t a side that has a lot of pace to rely on so at the back end of games we have been scored on a number of times through length of the field tries.

“We’ve been putting a lot of focus and emphasis on our defensive structures at training the past few weeks.

“We have been improving and our suffocation defence has also improved.”

The coach said his squad has been very solid, but gave special mention to a number of players that have been difference makers.

“Tom (O’Sullivan) and Brenton (Clement) have been very strong and consistent for us all season,” Quinn said.

“Harry (Cooke) and Blake (Cullen) have also been amazing for us this season, considering both have come back this season after a number of years out with injuries.”

Quinn said he is expecting a difficult game and that Oakey lock Logona Vetemotu will be their biggest threat.

“Oakey’s number 13 (Logona Vetemotu) is by far one of their best players,” he said.

“He’s definitely someone that we’ll need to keep a close eye on throughout the game.

“It’ll be a tough test.”

The two sides will take the field this Saturday, July 22 at the Oakey Rugby League Fields, kick-off is 6.30pm.
