The Darling Downs has long been a hotbed for cricketing talent.

From Martin Love to Mark Steketee to Jack Wildermuth, there has never been a shortage of talent in the region.

With the summer of cricket set to kick off this weekend, we have run the rule across all the clubs to reveal the young guns set to make their mark in 2024.

Cooper Webster (Uni)

The exciting all-rounder has endless talent and when he is on, there are few opponents who can stop him.

He showcased his talent in round 2 of the one-day season last year where he scored a stunning 123 off 129 balls.

If his efforts with the bat weren’t enough, he backed it up with a solid 2-25 off eight overs with the ball to showcase his exceptional all-round ability.

Astin Riley (Northern Brothers Diggers)

A young express pace bowler who had a breakout summer last season as he staked his claim at A-grade level.

Riley was a pivotal player for the Dragons in last year’s two-day competition as he claimed 10 scalps at an impressive average of 15.4 and ended the campaign with 29 wickets in all competitions.

Aaron Convery (Northern Brothers Diggers)

Convery will look to build on an impressive summer last year where he asserted himself as one of the key players for the future at Northern Brothers.

At his best, he was one of the leading opening batters in the competition and was the leading run-scorer for his club in the one-day season with 243 runs at 34.71.

After proving himself as a young gun with exciting talent, Convery will look to take his consistency to the next level this season and become a genuine force to be reckoned with.

Kye Martin (Northern Brothers Diggers)

The young gun brings Brisbane grade cricket experience and will be an exciting addition for Northern Brothers this year.

Dominic Black (Northern Brothers Diggers)

Another young gun who brings Brisbane experience, Black can make an impact with bat or ball and took 20 wickets last season at an average of 21.15.

Sam Coleborn (Northern Brothers Diggers)

The 16 year old pace bowler is set to take his game to the next level this year.

He has shot up in height and his pace is quicker than ever, making him a frightening prospect for opposing batters.

Josh Midolo (Northern Brothers Diggers)

The young batter has been a consistent talent with the bat in hand and Northern Brothers officials are excited for what could be a breakout year for him in reserve grade.

Fraser Judd (Met-Easts)

Judd has thrived in his short time in Toowoomba and will be one to watch for the Trojans in the first half of the season.

He is a solid contributor with the ball and is an elite left-handed batter capable of producing game-changing innings.

Darcy Shelton (Uni)

An exciting young bowler with a knack for taking wickets.

He picked up 13 scalps in the Reserve grade one-day comp last year at an average of 21.85.

Christo Van Vuuren (Met-Easts)

Van Vuuren has gone from strength to strength wherever he has played.

He brings impressive rep experience and regularly makes solid contributions with the bat and ball.

Jackson Haynes (Met-Easts)

Haynes is set to be locked and loaded for the TCI season as he has been out in the middle for the Toombul Taverners side this season.

Haynes is capable of turning a game on its head with the bat or ball.

With the bat, he has scored five 50s and one century, while as a bowler, he has taken 48 scalps at an average of 19.79.

Tom Yeo (Met-Easts)

Yeo lines up for Met-Easts after a string of solid performances with Ipswich in various competitions.

In four games this season across the Under-16 Club Challenge and Steketee Cup, he has taken six wickets at 13.67.

This comes off the back of a stellar campaign last year when he took an amazing 55 scalps at a stunning average of 11.11.

Jake Tarling (Highfields)

A marquee import signing for Highfields, the 19-year-old Englishman is set to test his skills against the best of the Darling Downs this season.

The Leicestershire academy product is a talented batting all-rounder who is set to provide the Bulldogs a massive boost this year.

Matthew Nunn (Wests)

The wicketkeeper batter was one of the key figures in the Wests batting line-up last season and was a reliable contributor with several strong innings throughout the year.

Daniel Robinson (Wests)

With several talented batters at Wests, Robinson was one of many players who all played their role perfectly last year.

With his side in trouble early in the two-day grand final, he scored a crucial 31 off 81 balls to help his side to 122.

Ryan Ward (Wests)

Ward enters the 2024-25 summer off the back of an outstanding two-day competition where he led Wests to premiership glory last year.

He was one of the most feared bowlers in the competition as he took 20 wickets at an average of 8.85 with the red ball which included two five wicket hauls.

Daniel Skillington (Uni)

The University youth factory continues to provide countless opportunities for young Toowoomba cricketers and Skillington is one of the latest looking to make his mark at the club.

After a solid season in the minor grades last year, Skillington is expected to push for a spot as a batter in the A-grade side.

Lachlan Howard (Souths)

Howard is a wicketkeeper batter who is looking to assert himself in the A-grade side after rising through the lower grades with the club.

He showed that when he gets his eye in he can be a dangerous player with a top score of 80 runs from just five innings in the reserve grade one-day comp last year.

Dominic Marsh (Souths)

After a couple of strong seasons in B-grade, Marsh is set to push for a spot in the higher grades.

He has strung together some impressive performances with bat and ball and will be a danger player to keep an eye on this year.

Daniel Follett (Souths)

A young tearaway pace bowler who started is another set to push his way up the grades as the season goes on for the Magpies.

In the 2023-24 campaign, he took 20 wickets at an average of 22.2.
