Club Toowoomba on a roll after securing undercover green funding

Touted as one of the biggest developments to come to this Toowoomba bowls club in 60 years, the $1m project will benefit more than 7500 members.

LAWN BOWLS: With their funding now secured, Club Toowoomba are ready to raise the roof on a multimillion-dollar project as soon as possible.

Having secured nearly $1 million in funding through the Building Better Regions Fund, the Hume Street club will now build a 12-rink undercover green, one of just three in Australia.

“Our undercover green will be only the third of its size in Australia,” Club Toowoomba general manager Kelly Cassidy said.

“We have received nearly $1 million in funding through the Building Better Regions Fund and are excited to get work underway as soon as possible.

“We believe it is something that will benefit not just our club and the greater lawn bowls community here but Toowoomba as a whole.

“We are home to more than 45 community and sporting groups and have about 7500 members – any investment in the club has a flow on effect for the community.”

An open-sided, single canopy with LED lighting for night bowling will be erected above an artificial green as part of the development.

“This is a great opportunity for us to bring more high level bowls tournaments and events to town,” Cassidy said.

“Bowls Australia televises a lot of those bigger events which would be great exposure for Toowoomba.”

Club Toowoomba is home to the South and West Toowoomba lawn bowls club who are excited about the future.

“It will bring a level of bowling to Toowoomba that we rarely have the chance to experience,” South Toowoomba men’s president Phil Schultz said.

“We’re talking about Queensland and Australian representative players which will be great for the game.

“Outside of that it means just a lot more bowling in general for Toowoomba bowlers with the weather not being a factor now.”
