INDOOR BOWLS: South-east Queensland's best indoor bowlers will be in Toowoomba this weekend.

More than 100 bowlers have nominated for the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers competition which has been a popular drawcard for the past 40 years.

"It's always been a popular event,” games director Errol Weir said. "The competition is very strong, with very good local and national level players in action.

"There's always a good friendly atmosphere though - it's played in the right spirit.”

Weir also expects Toowoomba bowlers to be among the top performers during the competition.

"We had a number of bowlers win medals at the recent Australian championships,” he said.

"The local competition has always been quite strong and that certainly helps.

"When you're playing consistently against other good bowlers it helps your game.

"We've always had passionate and dedicated bowlers which makes a difference.

"You have to being willing to put in the effort if you want to succeed.”

The carnival kicks-off tonight from 7pm at the Annand St Hall. Play begins at 1pm tomorrow and 8.30am on Sunday - entry is free for spectators.
