Athletes ready to honour Senior Constable Brett Forte

CrossFit Toowoomba pays special tribute to fallen officer Senior Constable Brett Forte.

CROSSFIT: The memory of Senior Constable Brett Forte and the sacrifice he made in the line of duty will be honoured Saturday June 2.

A year on from his death, members of the Darling Downs fitness community will head to CrossFit Toowoomba for the Senior Constable Brett Forte Memorial Challenge.

Snr Const Forte was a proud long-term member of CrossFit Toowoomba and owner Kent Strout is proud to be able to honour him.

"This will be the second year we've run the challenge,” Strout said.

"The workouts are different this time round but the one constant is that the challenge will always be a mixed pairs event.

"Brett worked out here often to ensure he could meet the physical demands of his job.

"More often than not he worked out with his wife Susan, who is still a member, and we wanted to recognise that.”

Strout said the challenge was the crossfit community's way honouring not just the sacrifice Snr Const Forte made but also the man himself.

"He (Forte) was a great father, husband and officer,” Strout said.

"He had a great sense of humour and gave a 100 per cent every time he trained.

"He wasn't a big fan of running though - he definitely preferred a heavy lift - but he was still a very fit man.”

In line with a proud crossfit tradition, CrossFit Toowoomba has moved to have Snr Const Forte recognised with a Hero WOD (workout of day).

Hero WODs are workouts officially recognised by CrossFit HQ created to honour armed forces and emergency services personnel who died in the line of duty.

"We have made an application to have a Hero WOD named after Brett,” Strout said.

"It's a lengthy process but I think it would be fantastic to have him formally recognised.”

This year funds raised from the challenge will be used to help CrossFit Toowoomba member Tori Gallegos attend the Teenage CrossFit Games in the US later this year.
