Ali Brigginshaw joins Western Clydesdales after promise to friend Shenae Ciesiolka

NRLW, State of Origin and Australian Jillaroos star Ali Brigginshaw will play for the Western Clydesdales. We reveal the ‘promise’ that led her to the Garden City here.

Growth of NRLW booming in more places than one

A promise made between two friends on the football field led the Western Clydesdales to signing one of Australian rugby league’s greatest female players.

Ali Brigginshaw will line up for the Clydesdales in their inaugural BMD Premiership season thanks in no small part to Shenae Ciesiolka.

Brigginshaw, who is the NRLW’s most capped player, promised Ciesiolka she would play in Toowoomba if a club was ever formed

“We (Ciesiolka and Brigginshaw) have played together for the last few years,” Brigginshaw said.

“It’s going to be cool to play here in Toowoomba, her home.

“She’s done some much travelling and always had to drive the two and a half hours home from Brisbane so it’s about time we did the hard work for her.”

Toowoomba is not unfamiliar territory to Brigginshaw who makes the trip up the range regularly to help introduce rugby league to female students.

The Queensland State of Orign and Australian Jillaroos veteran is looking forward to helping develop the foundations of successful club.

“I love how people love rugby league up here,” she said.

“I visit the schools and see a lot of young girls who are excited and being able to help them play rugby league is the thing I’m most passionate about.

“They’re just naturally talented up here.

“They have the ability and now they don’t have to go to Brisbane.

“Starting a new it’s all about laying the foundation and having good people.

“I’ve always said you can be great footballers but if you don’t have good people you’re not going to be successful.

“I know Sarge (Clydesdales coach Mitchell Sargent) has made sure he has good people and importantly people from around here.

“We’ve got home grown talent and some girls that are able to come in and make a difference.”
