Disgusting messages have been sent about Mason Cox in the aftermath of the Collingwood ruckman’s heated post-siren exchange.

The American star was seen giving Melbourne’s Christian Petracca a spray in the seconds after the siren sounded on the Demon’s dramatic four-point win at the MCG on Monday.

Petracca said after the game he had shrugged off the incident.

Now Cox has also had his say, revealing Petracca has apologised to him.

Cox addressed the matter in the latest episode of his Mason Cox Show podcast.

“I won’t go into it too much, we’ve had the conversation, ‘Trac’ and I, after this,” Cox said.

“He apologised and shook my hand… heat of the moment, we move on.

“All good. Words are said, whatever it is, Max Gawn was sitting there between us as the captain of Melbourne.

“It was interesting, I didn’t really expect words to be shared at the end of the game but they were. It is what it is, I’m not really offended to be honest, he just was hyped up from the win as you do get and we move on.”

Magpies teammates were seen trying to calm Cox down, while Demons star Max Gawn also tried to step in between the pair before being brushed aside as Cox went at Petracca for a second time.

Petracca was seen pointing his finger into Cox’s chest at one point before walking away with an angry expression on his face.

The pair did not shake hands.

Brayden Maynard and Josh Daicos both stepped in at times to stop the situation from escalating while players from both teams shook hands around the big Texan.

The scene did not go unnoticed in the aftermath of the match and Petracca addressed the situation when speaking from the Demons’ dressing rooms.

“It was fine. Just heat of the moment stuff. It was fine,” he said.

“No, nothing (in any particular moment that sparked it).

“All good. It’s all good. It’s fine. What happens on the field, stays on the field.

“We’re fine. We’re fine.”

The big win puts the Demons close to outright premiership favouritism.

“We needed that win. That was awesome,” Petracca said.

“Footy doesn’t owe you anything – you’ve got to work hard for it, and I thought the last couple of weeks we’ve had really great preparation going into the games and it was an amazing job.”

The loss snapped Collingwood’s eight-match win streak.

Cox had a day to forget on the field as well and was powerless to stop Brodie Grundy from ripping his former club apart.

At the end of the 2019 season, Grundy signed a seven-year, $1 million per-season deal.

But the ruckman couldn’t recapture his best form in the following seasons and was traded to Melbourne at the end of 2022 as the Magpies sought salary cap relief.

At the time, Grundy said he didn’t want to leave Collingwood.

“When I signed my contract, you think you are going be a Pie for life,” he said.

“That is the hardest thing, you have what is a pure intent, it really starts when you walk in the door … I wanted to play 300 games for the Pies.”

So in his first game against Collingwood, eyebrows were raised when parts of the MCG crowd booed Grundy as he took a mark in the first quarter.

Melbourne are now clear in third spot on the ladder behind Collingwood and Port Adelaide.
