Aussie Hollywood royalty ‘steals the show’ at Fight MND Big Freeze slide

Aussie Hollywood royalty has stolen the show at the Fight MND ‘Big Freeze’ slide ahead of Collingwood’s clash with Melbourne.

Aussie stars went down the Big Freeze slide.

The ninth edition of the Big Freeze has been run and done, with a mixture of sporting stars, TV presenters and some Aussie Hollywood royalty going down the slide at the MCG.

As has now become tradition, the Big Freeze slide was held ahead of Collingwood and Melbourne’s AFL clash on the King’s Birthday public holiday.

Former Melbourne coach Neale Daniher has spearheaded the ‘Fight MND’ campaign after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2013.

All manner of Australian sporting icons have gone down the slide into a freezing ice bath and it was no different this year.

Plenty of Aussie sporting heroes dressed up as superheroes to go down the slide.

World surfing champion Mick Fanning was aptly the Silver Surfer and four-time AFL premiership winner Shaun Burgoyne was dressed as Spider-Man.

Collingwood legend Tony Shaw looked slightly menacing as Beetlejuice, while Jason Dunstall was Aquaman and former Aussie cricketer Aaron Finch was Captain Feathersword from the Wiggles.

Michelle Payne, the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup, was Wonder Woman while her brother Stevie was dressed as Hulk.

Channel 7 sports presenter Abbey Gelmi channelled Maleficient, while AFLW and boxing star Tayla Harris wore the No. 20 Matildas jersey in honour of Sam Kerr.

But perhaps the best slider was Australian actor Eric Bana, who is a devoted St Kilda fan.

Bana was dressed as Saints cult hero Carl Ditterich, complete with a headband, wig, moustache, sideburns and a vintage Saints jumper.

Bana was the consensus pick for MVP of this year’s contingent of sliders.

David King said on Fox Footy: “I love Eric Bana. I love the way he’s gone as a Saint.

“Not the graceful St Kilda players. He went as an absolute thug, a guy that was prepared to mix it. 10 out of 10 for me, he stole the show. I thought he was a beauty.”

Leigh Montagna added: “He could have gone as any Hollywood character he’s played, but he wants to go as a St Kilda hero. I thought he put on the acting, he did it beautifully.”

Before the game started, Collingwood and Melbourne gave Daniher a guard of honour at the MCG.

Fight MND is aiming to raise $2 million and is nearly at that mark already.
