The $1 million auction sale of a Toowoomba CBD building featuring a “spectacular” apartment on the top floor could spark a new wave of shop-top living developments.
That’s according to Re/Max agent Jacqui Walker who secured the result for the owner of the narrow property on Ruthven Street, opposite the Heritage Bank building.
Ms Walker said the vendor, who had held the site for 17 years, completely refurbished the second floor into a boutique apartment that delivered plenty of interest.
“People had lived in it in the past, it had been rented out, but it wasn’t nice, and she made it look modern — all she did was renovate it and make it beautiful,” she said.
“We had over 150 inspections over the four-week period, and we had registered buyers from interstate.
“We had a Melbourne person on the line and Sydney on the line, but in the end it came down to two locals and (they) kept going.”
Ms Walker said the interest in the sale had led to a more inquiries about shop-top living.
“I’ve now listed the shop next door, which is unrenovated but could be repeated next door,” she said.
“A lot of people were very interested in replicating what happened with this one.”
