After more than six decades of birthdays, Christmases and memories, a Toowoomba family is farewelling their home.
The Rangeville cottage, which has been in the Marriott/Robertson family for 63 years, has hit the market through Good Real Estate and could sell for upwards of $750,000.
Built in 1957 on Tourist Rd in Rangeville as a war service home, original owners Richard and Lois Marriott bought the property in 1960 and added an extension three years later.
Their daughter Kay Robertson and husband Trevor then purchased her childhood home in 1989 before turning it into a four bedroom, three bathroom property with a guest studio.
Listing agent Brendan Mayles said the process had been emotional for the Robertsons, given their history with the home.
“They’re beautiful people, Kay does Meals on Wheels delivery, they’re involved in the community,” he said.
“They’re downsizing but they’re staying in a unit on the same road, they wanted to remain part of the community.
“It’s been a huge emotional rollercoaster, so we had to make sure we tread carefully with the listing.
“You can see the emotion that comes out when they talk about it — that’s 60 years of Christmases and countless memories.
“It’s very rare to come across this.”
In another twist, Mr Mayles said the Marriotts hired renowned Toowoomba architect Frank Brammer to design the first extension in 1963 — only for the Robertsons to hire Mr Brammer’s son to complete the second extension in 1997.
He said the property was expected to generate strong interest.
“It is a nice spot, the home is sitting on a nice block of land,” Mr Mayles said.
“Based on your traditional cottage being sold in East Toowoomba, I feel you’re getting a very good buy at that price.”
