It’s a market that has witnessed a boom in recent times and one Toowoomba mum has jumped on-board to show other parents what the fuss is all about.
Research from CSIRO indicates that Australian parents will throw out more than one billion disposable nappies annually – with each one taking approximately 300 years to decompose.
Experiencing the many benefits first-hand, local mum Chloe Gilliland, 30, has now started her own side hustle to pass the knowledge on to other parents.
“Cloth That Bum is an educational side project spreading my knowledge of everything cloth, from the different types to how to keep them clean,” Ms Gilliland said.
“I started doing this because the cloth nappy industry is booming and I wish it was a service I had available to me when I first became a mum.”
Offering parents a ‘cloth and sip’ style workshop, Ms Gilliland said it’s an opportunity for local mums and dads to learn about the benefits of using cloth nappies for their kids and meet like-minded people.
The Toowoomba mum said she had spoken to many parents who didn’t understand how to fit or clean cloth nappies.
“I feel it’s important for parents to have all the facts when making choices for their children including whether to use disposables or cloth nappies.
“A lack of understanding can cause parents to dismiss the option of using cloth and that’s why the Toowoomba and surrounding regions could really benefit from Cloth That Bum.
“I also have a try-before-you-buy service so parents can try different fitting nappies on their babies before committing to purchases.”
Pricing varies depending on workshop attendance and requirements.
