Two people have been charged after allegedly stealing a dog from New South Wales and bringing it to Townsville, after a Queensland Police officer recognised the husky in her body worn camera footage.
Police have charged two people with the alleged theft of Nova the Siberian Husky.
Police will allege a 28-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man stole the Husky from its home in Coonabarabran, New South Wales on January 3.
Seven days later a member of the public handed Nova into a Wulguru vet, with the dog handed safely back to its owners shortly after.
Nova’s owners Martin Geyer and Daniel Loader travelled 22 hours from their Coonabarabran home to Townsville to be reunited with their beloved dog.
A Townsville police officer was able to identify the husky using her body worn camera footage after attending a Kirwan address for an unrelated matter days prior.
After reviewing the footage the officer believed the footage of a dog in the backyard of a Kirwan property was the same dog that had been shared across social media.
After matching the photos, the officer arrested the man and the women.
The West End woman and the Cranbrook man have been charged with bringing stolen goods into Queensland are due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on February 19.
