It’s officially halfway through winter, which means warmer days are edging closer.

But don’t put away your jackets just yet, there are still weeks of chilly weather to come.

This week in Toowoomba, maximums are above average sitting in the mid to high teens while minimums are still frosty, dipping into the single digits.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology today will range between 10 and 19 degrees.

Tomorrow is slightly warmer with a minimum of 13 degrees and maximum of 19 degrees.

There is also a medium chance of light rain.

With the number of chilly days and frosty mornings Toowoomba has experienced of late, it’s easy to think this winter may be colder than the others but according to climate data by BoM, so far we are on par with previous years, but with slightly warmer minimums.

The climate data indicates that the mean maximum temperature for June and July combined is 16.6 degrees and the mean minimum is 5.8 degrees.

However, this year the figures respectively are 15.9 degrees and 7.1 degrees.

While Toowoomba is on average for temperatures this time of year, the rainfall data tells a different story.

In June, the Garden City’s mean rainfall is 56.8mm, however this year the town only received 29.8mm which fell across nine days.

July is already looking more promising, with above average rainfall recorded and it’s only mid-month.

On average Toowoomba receives 52mm for July, and already 58.4mm has fallen across six days.

More rain is predicted as we see the end of winter 2021, but temperatures will begin slowly rising from next month leading us into a temperate spring.
