An explosion of colour will herald the start of Youth Week in Toowoomba, and families are invited to get involved.
The week starts with a colour run at the Toowoomba PCYC on James Street.
“We will be doing an obstacle course, with some fun games and activities as well,” Sergeant Chantelle Kelly said.
Registrations open at 9am on Monday with the run to start at 9.30am.
Rosie’s Friends on the Street will provide food, while the PCYC Youth Leadership Team will sell packets of coloured powder and snacks.
“It is all about celebrating our young people and kicking off Youth Week,” Sgt Kelly said.
“We are teaming with Toowoomba Regional Council’s Youth Connect and supporting them with their events through the weeks.
“We want to celebrate the young people in our community and remind families that we are there as a safe space for our young people to come to, and to showcase our programs and activities.”
Events will be held across the Toowoomba region.
They include Y2K Rewind parties at Highfields and Pittsworth where young people can dance to the hits of the early 2000s.
They are lock-in events, so party goers won't be able to leave unless a parent or guardian is there to collect them.
The Highfields event will be held at the Cultural Centre from 5-8pm on Monday, while the Pittsworth event will be held at the Town Hall from 5-8pm on Thursday.
There will also be a series of Parkfest events that will see the region’s parks transformed into activity centres with free music, laser tag, archery attack, outdoor art workshops, basketball and barbecues.
The Parkfest events will run from 2-4pm at Meringandan’s Bicentennial Park on Monday, Crows Nest’s Skelly Recreation Reserve on Tuesday and Oakey’s Gordon Park on Wednesday.
Finally, the Cobb and Co Museum and Australian School of Entrepreneurship will host a Pitch and Paint challenge.
This event combines creativity with entrepreneurship, giving young minds the chance to develop leadership skills while painting their ideas on canvas.
Participants will identify a local issue and create a solution through business or social change, design logos and products, and share in open discussions, giving and receiving feedback from peers.
Guided by entrepreneurs and facilitators, this event is a fun, hands-on way to build creativity, leadership, and community, while connecting with like-minded youth.
It runs from 3-4.30pm on Thursday.
