Celebrate the region’s mums and help create change for women’s health and safety this weekend at one of the many Mother’s Day events.

Whether your mum loves an early morning run, a bargain shopping trip or a midday brunch – there’s something for every mum, and her kids, this weekend.

Here are ten things happening in the region.

1. Rally against domestic violence

In major cities across Australia, thousands will join together this weekend to demand action against domestic and gendered violence.

Organised by advocacy group What Were You Wearing, the No More: National Rally Against Domestic Violence movement aims to create change by shining a light on the reality of domestic, family and sexual violence, particularly against women, in Australia.

Join the Toowoomba rally from 12pm at Frogs Hollow in Queens Park on Saturday, May 10.

2. Mother's Day Classic Fun Run

Celebrate the mothers in your life and support those fighting cancer at the Mother’s Day Classic Fun Run hosted by Finch Legal this Sunday.

Take in the scenery as you walk or run through Middle Ridge Park to raise money for breast and ovarian cancer research – and keep fit in the process.

Cheering from the sidelines? Enter the raffle for $2 a ticket to be in the chance to win tickets to the Melbourne Comedy Festival, a $250 jewellery gift voucher and much more.

3. Mother's Day celebrations

Learn everything there is to know about the tiny home movement at Toowoomba’s Tiny Homes Expo this weekend.

Tour display homes, talk to builders, and grab some food as you take in all there is to see about alternative and sustainable living.

Doors open from Friday 10am to Sunday 5pm at Toowoomba Showgrounds in Glenvale.

5. Joshy’s Jumble

The mother of all garage sales is set to kick off this weekend.

Toowoomba mother Toni Mitchell has been fighting for more than 20 years to give her son Joshy the best life possible, despite his numerous medical conditions.

In doing so she created the Joshy Jumble garage sale which will celebrate its tenth anniversary this year.

The garage sale includes 1000 items covering clothes, toys, linen and electrical goods donated by the community, and has allowed the Mitchell’s to generate extra money to cover expenses and costs of Joshy’s medical needs not covered by the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Joshy’s Jumble will open at 15 Mott Crescent in Rockville from Friday to Sunday from 9am to 3pm each day.

6. Twilight Markets

Enjoy a night out at the Twilight Markets this Saturday night with more than 40 food vendors, face painting, live entertainment

Snuggle up and watch the Best Picture winning movie Wicked on the oval from 6.30pm.

All profits go towards helping Hope Horizons who will also be collecting gold coin donations on the night.

Gates open from 4pm to 9pm on Saturday at the corner of Campbell and Lindsay streets.

7. Lighthouse of Hope Opening Day

Grab a bargain at the official opening of Toowoomba’s Lighthouse of Hope.

After years of work, the Salvation Army Lighthouse of Hope will officially open to full capacity this weekend.

To celebrate, the team will be hosting a sausage sizzle with $10 bag sale on all clothing and free face painting, a jumping castle and games for kids.

Doors open from 9am to 3pm on Saturday at 119 West Street, Toowoomba.

8. Mort Street Walking Tour

Immerse yourself in the history of Toowoomba with the Toowoomba Trails Mort Estate walking tour.

Discover the home of the “King of Toowoomba” and traipse through the worker’s cottages, schools and corner stores of the Mort Estate as you uncover the rich history of Toowoomba’s first subdivision.

9. Witches Walk

Enter a world of sorcery this Saturday at the Toowoomba Witches Market.

Dress in your most impressive witch’s garb and walk the parade with prizes to be awarded to the best dressed witches and warlocks.

Markets open from 10am to 4pm, with the parade starting from 2pm at Heller Street Park.

10. Theatre of Magic

Witness mind-bending illusions up close at the Empire this Saturday night.
