A Lifeline Darling Downs trainee program that has a 70% employment rate for its successful participants has opened for applications.

The organisation is calling for trainees under the Queensland Government's Skilling Queenslanders for Work program.

Lifeline Darling Downs was successful in gaining funds for their "Step Up In To Work" project which will see 15 trainees employed for a period of six months.

During their placement all trainees undertake formal training and assessment with a Registered Training Organisation, which will lead to a nationally recognised qualification in business or administration.

Trainees will be placed at Lifeline Darling Downs Head Office, their Containers for Change Depots in Toowoomba and Dalby, and the Lifeline Distribution Centre.

Lifeline Darling Downs business services manager Angela Klein said the program was a "great opportunity" for those who were eligible.

"It's getting unemployed people to re-engage with the work force and learn those skills which are important, create a routine of going to work, communicating, and learning how to manage communication as well when there is conflict," she said.

"We're really proud and excited to be able to offer this program again, based in Toowoomba and Dalby."

Skilling Queenslanders for Work provides skills development, training and job opportunities to unemployed, disengaged or disadvantaged Queenslanders through a suite of targeted skills and training programs.

"The successful trainees will be employed for six months which will provide them with the necessary skills to gain further employment," Ms Klein said.

Application packages are available by calling 0429 068 975 or emailing aklein@lifelinedarlingdowns.org.au during business hours.

Applications close September 12, 2020.

Skilling Queenslanders for Work funds not for profit community-based organisations to deliver projects that respond to the needs of local jobseekers and employment opportunities in their area.
