Toowoomba can now hold claim to producing some of the best chocolate in the world, after a city producer landed some high accolades from an international body.

A craft chocolate factory in Harristown has become the first Australian food manufacturing company to be rated three stars, the highest accreditation, in the international food and drink accreditation scheme, the Great Taste Awards.

Great Taste ratings are one of the world’s largest and most trusted accreditation system, as products are tasted by a panel of more than 500 experts.

Only around two per cent of products are awarded a three star rating each year which must be unanimously voted on by every judge across the panels, and Metiisto Craft Chocolate received two for its Tenaru 67% Dark Chocolate and Guara 70% Dark Chocolate.

Founder and chocolate maker Trevor Smith said he was honoured to receive the rating for not just one but two of his chocolates.

The ratings make Metiisto one of the best chocolate makers in the nation, if not the world.

“It’s nice (to receive the award),” Mr Smith said.

“Getting a broad scope of people who appreciate the product is important.”

Metiisto also received two star ratings for its Old School 43% Milk Chocolate and Black Post 55% Dark Milk Chocolate.

It received a one star rating for its Berau 73% Dark Chocolate.
