A LONGSTANDING Toowoomba business has been given the green light to expand their operations.
Angliss Meats in July submitted plans to demolish an old house adjacent to its current operations on West St in Newtown and build a new warehouse.
Following a public notification period, the plans were approved by Toowoomba Regional Council on September 24.
The new warehouse, which will only store empty boxes and pallets, is required due to the business’ reliance on wholesale trade over standard retail customers.
“The shed at 107B West St will not be used for the storage of meat products as these are processed and stored at 109 West St,” plans lodged with the council said.
“Current trading figures show that Angliss Meats is primarily a wholesale distributor of meat
products, with wholesale trade accounting for 83 per cent of total sales figures and walk-in retail accounting for 17 per cent of total sales.”
The new warehouse will have a gross floor area of 161.21 sq m.
A council planning officer’s report said the new building had a gabled roof addressing the street and “has been designed to be sympathetic to the character values of the area within the limits of a shed-like structure dictated by the functional requirements of the warehouse use”. “The building is set back from the street frontage to allow for a garden setting enclosed by a
picket fence.”
