Toowoomba Swap Meet just one of many cancelled by Covid

An increase in Covid-19 cases have seen numerous shows and events canned for the year. Details here.

On the hunt for a good deal

A PREDICTED spike in Covid-19 cases across the district has forced Darling Downs organises to cancel or postpone events.

The Darling Downs Veteran and Vintage Motor Club’s annual Toowoomba Swap Meet has been postponed from the planned February 5 and 6 dates.

Swap member Patrick Murphy said the decision was a difficult one to make.

“The club made the decision to protect the safety and wellbeing of site holders, swap patrons, club members and a large group of volunteers from other organisations involved in running the event,” he said.

“This is the second time the swap has had to be cancelled largely due to the Covid pandemic.

“We are planning to hold the swap later in the year over the Father’s Day weekend of September 3 and 4.”

Meanwhile, growing case numbers have cast doubt on whether the region’s Australia Day celebrations will go ahead as planned.

The Toowoomba Regional Council has confirmed that discussions are under way about alternative plans, and a proposal will be presented to the council for a vote at a meeting on Tuesday.

The survival of the Summer Tunes program remains unclear.

The Clifton Show Society has made the call to postpone the annual show scheduled for February 11 to 13, with a later date to be announce.

The show joins the Allora and Stanthorpe shows which have also decided to pull the pin.

However, several events such as the Toowoomba Farmers Markets will continue.
