The 31st Toowoomba Grammar School Art Show drew crowds over the weekend, browsing through the some 700 artworks on display from almost 250 artists, as the school came to life in a showcase and celebration of art.

Organiser and parent Jodie Humphries described the show as more of a “festival” with a number of events, the extensive amount of work on display, which also included a massive online collection, something that started during Covid and has continued.

While the show had to go online during the pandemic years, it bounced back in 2022, and while this year has had its effect, with cost-of-living and travel opening up again, it still had a significant response, Ms Humphries said.

“We’ve still sold $223,000 so far and that’s incredible for this climate,” she said.

From the opening night on Friday to its closing on Sunday, around 3000 visitors browsed through the extensive array of artwork, joining in events such as High Tea and Art with Friends, or even just taking in the live music at the cafe, provided by the students.

Running coffee and orders to visitors in the cafe was Grammar Year 10 student Taj Khan, who said it was a good chance to give back to the community by volunteering at the cafe.

“It’s a wonderful show and gets a lot of people together,” he said.

A highlight of the show was TGS under-wraps, where a card is given out to artists, community members and students, who will anonymously do an artwork to be displayed alongside the main show.

The artworks are on sale for $30 each and 100 per cent of proceeds go to Yalari scholarships, which supports remote Indigenous students in attending Toowoomba Grammar School.
