One of Toowoomba’s biggest art shows has smashed its goal by clearing nearly $280,000 in pieces, in a bumper weekend celebrating some of Australia’s most talented creatives.
The Grammar Art Show drew hundreds of people across its three-day run, with avid collectors and enthusiasts eyeing off incredible pieces.
First-time committee president Jodie Humphreys said of particular interest for potential buyers were works from this year’s feature artists Joanna Davies and Nell Symonds.
“Joanna has sold all but one of her pieces, which is awesome, and Nell has sold half of hers,” she said.
“There are 650 pieces on display, and we’ve got another 250 online as well, but you can purchase the art here and online from the website.
“Everyone has loved all the colour and the hang, and it’s been good, positive feedback.
“It’s been really well supported, it’s been a beautiful vibe in the cafe with the children entertaining us.”
Ms Humphreys said the committee had set a goal of $250,000, noting she was happy with the response so far from collectors.
“My goal was $250,000 so we’ve smashed that — with the economic climate right now and so many people travelling, we didn’t have the same expectations as last year,” she said.
“We’re very happy with the response.”
