Toowoomba clowns debut new show at the Empire Theatre

Meet the two young, local actors who took a chance and formed their very own clowning company, You Me Three Clown Co with big plans to bring laughter and entertainment to Toowoomba’s young – and young at heart.

Clowns in a kitchen sounds like a disaster waiting to happen but for Toowoomba’s very own locally grown actors, Wren Condren and Ashlynn Parigi it was just the inspiration they needed to create a hilarious, heartwarming show sure to have you and your little ones laughing out loud.

Two thirds of the mastermind creatines behind You Me Three Clown Co, Condren and Parigi are excited to be back at the Empire Theatre as part of the Homegrown Independents Program.

“We have been fortunate as young actors to receive support from the Empire Theatre through the Homegrown Program in the past with a play called Almost, Maine by John Cariani as well as in their Thrive on Arts theatre festival but this time we’re back with our very own original show we wrote ourselves,” Condren said.

Both recent acting graduates from USQ, Condren and Parigi said the decision to pursue careers as professional clowns alongside artistic director David Steggall came easily when the three decided to launch a clowning company together at the end of 2019, but it hasn’t been the smoothest of starts for the funny threesome.

“It’s been so encouraging to have the support of our local theatre behind us, particularly when we’ve gone out and started up a clown company just before a global pandemic,” Parigi said.

“We definitely didn’t expect COVID to come along a couple months after we just got started and take a whole bunch of the work we had planned. It was definitely a hard year for us so we’re really glad to have this opportunity to perform on stage for Toowoomba now.”
