Queenslanders will have to wait until this morning’s 9am press conference to find out if Easter holiday plans will go ahead or whether they will be stuck in their homes for an extended lockdown.
Describing Wednesday morning’s three cases of COVID-19 – of which two of were locally acquired – as “encouraging news”, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said there were two factors that would determine the government’s lockdown decision-making.
“If we see very good testing rates across Queensland and we don’t see any unlinked community transmission, the signs are looking positive,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
At the start of Greater Brisbane’s lockdown, the State Government advised a decision would be made at 5pm on Wednesday, but that was pushed back.
On Wednesday, there were concerns in some quarters that Greater Brisbane’s lockdown could be extended to the rest of the state if COVID-19 case numbers continued to grow.
Queensland’s chief health officer Dr Jeanette Young said it was “absolutely extremely important that anyone with any symptoms get tested”.
