The woman who visited a Toowoomba cafe and later tested positive for COVID-19 has been moved out of the region, according to health authorities.

Queensland Health confirmed after 2pm on Wednesday the woman, who was involved in a hen’s party in Byron Bay that has become a new COVID-19 cluster, had been transferred from Toowoomba Hospital to one in southeast Queensland.

“We can confirm a COVID-19 case admitted to Toowoomba Hospital has been transferred to another hospital,” the statement said.

Lack of information leads to anxiety

“The patient was moved to another hospital as part of Queensland’s broader management of COVID-19 patients, not because of her condition.

“Toowoomba Hospital is open to patients and, as always, very safe to attend.”

The statement comes after Toowoomba mayor Paul Antonio revealed just before 11am the patient was no longer staying in the city.

“I think there’s another issue that will emerge in the next few hours, and that is the patient being treated, who is not any longer in Toowoomba,” he told the media.

“I have received information that they have been moved to a more secure place.

“I think it’s appropriate that the people of Toowoomba know.”

‘The signs are very encouraging’: Queensland reports just two new local cases

Anyone who was at the Ridge Shopping Centre between 10.30am and 12.15pm will need to get tested and self-isolate until they receive a negative result.
