New technology will allow a vital service to access and assess hard-to-reach spots across the Toowoomba Range in a move to better identify required upgrades.
Queensland Rail head of regional Jim Benstead said new artificial intelligence technology would enable engineers to conduct virtual inspections of the railway – a “vital link between the Darling Downs and the Port of Brisbane”.
“Queensland Rail is investing into technology to ensure that we remain safe and reliable along the Toowoomba Range,” he said.
“The new technology enables us to get a 3D model of the Toowoomba Range, and with the model, we can zoom into specific areas of concern … even rock formations that may have changed.”
Aerial Drone Solutions captured photogrammetry and LiDAR for the 24km project, which Mr Benstead said allowed Queensland Rail to help better monitor the region and help avoid disruptions to the line into the future.
“It’s vitally important we maintain the condition of this rail line to support local industry and economy through reliable transport solutions,” he said.
