A 10m exclusion zone will remain around the site of a chemical spill until Thursday despite firefighters removing the hazardous material.

Firefighters initially isolated a truck and established a 100m exclusion zone after a chemical spill was reported at the Stanbroke Beef’s Bottle Tree Feedlot, southwest of Chinchilla.

Staff located a small amount of aluminium phosphide that had split in the rear of the truck about 10.50am on Tuesday.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said five crews were called to the feedlot on Greenswamp Road and identified a second contamination site at the front of the property.

It has since been cleaned up.

The chemical is a common pesticide and required crews to dress in full hazmat personal protective equipment.

They used water to dilute the spill.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics transported the male truck driver, aged in his 40s, to the Chinchilla hospital after he suffered breathing complications.

Greenswamp Road has been closed to traffic and is expected to remain closed for several hours.

The scene was declared safe, about 4.15pm.
