Phat Burgers tops Delicious best burger poll for Toowoomba

We asked you to vote for Toowoomba’s best burger, and you answered! Find out which popular burger joint took out our poll here.

Phat Burgers the best

While people travel from far and wide for a taste of their award-winning cuisine, it’s the support of the Toowoomba community that has seen Phat Burgers take out our Delicious poll for the region’s best burger.

Co-owner Alan Wynn said its success wouldn’t be possible without the support of the community.

“I think through COVID our longevity in the community just means everything,” he said.

“It’s great that people travel to visit but at the end of the day we need the Toowoomba community to support us fist and foremost and vice versa, we have to support them.

“Something that got us through COVID was seeing all these new Facebook pages where our name was being mentioned a lot, I was really taken back by how many people wanted us to keep going. During the first stage (of lockdown last year) we didn’t know what was going to happen.

“The longevity of being here for more than 14 years I felt through COVID was really important to us getting through it because we weren’t the new guys.”

When it comes to their menu, Mr Wynn said anyone who walked through their front door could immediately tell the difference between them and their larger competition.

“We’re not a chain, we’re chefs cooking real food,” he said.

“All our sauces are made in-house, our chutneys, chilli jams, mayo and aioli, it’s not out of a pack, and it’s that next level of care that sets us apart I think.”

Mr Wynn said Phat Burgers also looks to support the community from sporting events to live music.

“Having a burger shop can be the hard work, seven days a week,” he said

“Some days are good, some are bad so it can be hard to find consistency these days. It wasn’t an issue a decade a ago and as a town gets bigger more people open things, chains open up. “We’ve been around for a while now and also do a lot of community stuff to give back. We’re always involved with different sports and giving people a gig, there’s always something on.”

The poll win comes on the heels of the iconic eatery taking out the 2021 Australian Good Food Guide Readers Choice award announced on International Burger Day last Friday.

“I was amazed by that actually, we’ve only been a member for a year and that was judged by anonymous reviewers so we must have impressed the right people,” Mr Wynn said.
