One of Toowoomba’s most celebrated burger restaurants has revived its popular live music sessions in a bid to boost the profile of local original artists.

Phat Burgers on Ruthven St will host Phat Garage Sessions every second Sunday afternoon, with the third edition coming up this weekend.

The free gig will feature resident artist Vanessa Miiller and another Toowoomba songwriter.

Phat Burgers co-owner Richard May-Steers said he wanted to support the original music scene, which had taken a hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Phat Garage Sessions

“Phat Garage was a live music venue we used to have, and we’re using that as a forum to go back to support local music,” he said.

“Just hearing all these people making songs during COVID that don’t have anywhere to perform them, I thought ‘Let’s do it’.

“I reckon the music industry has been hardest hit by COVID, with ours the second hardest.”

Phat Garage Sessions will kick off from 4.30pm on Sunday.
