Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack has signalled the Federal Government in principle supports the Wellcamp Entertainment Precinct project, but has stopped short of pledging the $40 million worth of federal funding the project needs to get off the ground.
The State Government has already pledged $40 million to the project, but Wagner Corporation needs another $40 million from the Federal Government before it moves forward with the motorsport and entertainment facility.
“We want to do things like this,” Mr McCormack said about the proposal during a press conference at Paul Wiedman Electrical this morning.
“We want to build local infrastructure with private players like the Wagner family.
“We’re more than happy to work with the Wagners and the State Government … we’ve worked very well with the State Government.”
Mr McCormack said he would also look at a proposal from the Toowoomba Regional Council for a $5 million study feasibility study into the wider region’s water security.
“The council will finalise their submission, and put that in to me,” he said.
“When they do I’ll have a very close and good look at it.”
Mr McCormack was in Toowoomba yesterday to campaign for LNP Groom by-election candidate Garth Hamilton.
