More than $3 million spent on CBD parking revenue in one year

New data has revealed how much is generated annually within the Toowoomba region through parking fines and revenues. Find out the full cost here.

New data has shown more than $3m of revenue is generated annually across the Toowoomba region through parking violations.

The Toowoomba Regional Council issued 16,085 parking infringements during the 2021/22 financial year, down from the previous year’s 16,409 fines.

Revenue from parking fines during 2021/22 was $1,033,102, up from $1,000,011 in 2020/21.

“During 2019/20, Covid had a big impact on the number of infringements issued with that year being well down at 12,597 infringements,” TRC Environment and Community Portfolio Leader Councillor Tim McMahon said.

TRC provided free parking for a number of months in the Toowoomba CBD as a business relief measure during the COVID pandemic.”

Revenue from paid parking in the Toowoomba CBD during 2021/22 was $2,537,330, up from 2020/21 revenue of $2,424,196.

The council’s new Smart Parking App, has been downloaded almost 5000 times and has been used almost 4000 times as of September 6.

“A key element in Toowoomba Regional Council’s City Centre Car Parking Strategy is using the latest technology to improve customer experience to make finding and paying for parking more convenient and efficient,” TRC Infrastructure Portfolio Leader Councillor Melissa Taylor said.

“The strategy empowers Council to find the right balance to support motorists wanting to park in the CBD and providing more opportunities for customers to visit businesses.”

Cr Taylor said while the system had experienced “teething issues”, more than 72,000 payments had been made using smart parking.
