Toowoomba Regional Council animal management office has seized two German Shepherd dogs after they attacked a man.
Paramedics were called to a home in Michael Street at Westbrook about 4.44am on Tuesday after reports a dog had bitten a man. They treated him for minor injuries.
The council has started an investigation into an incident that was reported.
They attended the site and seized two wandering German Shepherds.
“As the investigation is continuing, no further comment on this case can be provided at this stage,” TRC Environmental Health portfolio leader Cr Tim McMahon said.
TRC may issue fines or euthanise the animals if they are deemed a threat to public safety.
They may also declare the animals dangerous or menacing dogs, which leads to higher registration fees and restrictions on keeping the dogs.
“It is totally unacceptable in any community for a person or another animal to be attacked by a dog,” Mr McMahon said.
“Council undertakes all actions strictly in accordance with the State Government’s Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008.
“Council encourages and promotes a range of responsible pet ownership measures.
“Dog owners have a responsibility to maintain control of their dogs in public at all times.
“They also have a duty to ensure dogs are properly enclosed in private yards and do not wander.”
