Helicopter pilot escapes crash at Toowoomba Airport

The Australian Sport Rotorcraft Association will investigate a gyrocopter crash that occurred shortly after takeoff at the Toowoomba Airport.
Emergency services were called to the Toowoomba Airport about 5.10pm on Sunday after witnesses reported seeing a helicopter drop in mid-takeoff.
Footage of the crash shows the aircraft lift slightly before it overturns.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesman confirmed the pilot was able to escape without injury and no other passengers were on the flight.
Queensland Ambulance Service were also in attendance.
The Toowoomba Airport strip was closed until at least 9pm.
The ASRA has been tasked with investigating the matter.
A spokesman said the association was aware of the crash but was waiting on the pilot to file an incident report before it could act.
“If we do not receive a report within 24 hours then we will contact the pilot and push them to file a report,” he said.
“We will take whatever action is necessary.”
