An Optus 5G rollout plan for 2030 is set to benefit customers across regional Australia and will improve connectivity, operating speed, and coverage.
In the company’s 5G rollout plan they are aiming to have 1500 active 5G sites in Regional Australia by 2028 and 2444 by 2030.
Optus has recently activated 5G on four more of their existing Toowoomba sites, meaning Optus now has eight 5G sites in the region, and there are also 37 Optus 4G sites in Toowoomba.
Optus local general manager Nick Channell said this will give Toowoomba access to the latest mobile technology with faster speeds and better connectivity.
“Toowoomba is a really important part of our network,” he said.
“It’s a growing region, and we’ve had a strong presence here since 2007.”
The current eight Toowoomba 5G sites all operate 5G+ which is faster than standard 5G.
“Whether you’re running a business, streaming on the go or staying in touch with loved ones, it’s going to be a better experience overall,” he said.
Mr Channell said the biggest challenge with the rollout will be prioritising different regions across the country and working out where there is a need to fill out the capacity.
Mr Channell said the company is offering customers the chance to test if Optus coverage works for them before making the switch to a new provider.
“We understand that people might be unsure about switching and that’s why for eligible customers we offer a free seven day network trial,” he said.
“No payment details, no commitment.”
