Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were called to a fire on Keding Road in Westbrook.

Firefighters and Toowoomba Regional Council staff are dousing a pile of rubbish that ignited in Westbrook while en route to the dump.

A domestic waste contractor was transporting the garbage when a fire started in the truck’s storage unit, about 10.30am on Tuesday.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said the contractor dumped the flaming waste onto Keding Road, near the intersection with Gore St, to give fireys better access to the heat source.

One fire crew is working to control the blaze by spreading out the waste and hitting it with water from their hose lines.

More to come.
