Toowoomba South MP David Janetzki has been named the new LNP deputy leader.
His LNP party room colleagues elected him to the role at a meeting at Parliament House in Brisbane this morning.
“It is my extraordinary honour to have been elected deputy leader of the (LNP),” Mr Janetzki said.
“We take a deep breath and steel ourselves for the challenges ahead.
“Thank you for all the well wishes and support.”
Mr Janetzki succeeds Tim Mander as the party’s deputy after he resigned from the position after the LNP’s state election loss last month.
He went up against Dale Last, Steve Minnikin and Christian Rowan for the position.
Broadwater MP and former Newman Government minister David Crisafulli has also replaced Deb Frecklington as the party’s leader.
Ms Frecklington also resigned after the election loss.
Toowoomba North MP Trevor Watts took to Facebook to congratulate the new leadership team.
“A new strong leadership team was selected yesterday, and I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our new leader of the Liberal National Party, David Crisafulli, and to my friend and partner in making Toowoomba the best place to live in Queensland, David Janetzki as the deputy leader,” Mr Watts said.
“There are exciting times ahead for the LNP with such capable leaders heading up our party.”
The selection of the new LNP leadership team came as results were finalised for the state election by the electoral commission of Queensland this week.
In Toowoomba North, Trevor Watts received 49.99 per cent of the first preference votes.
Labor’s Megan O’Hara Sullivan received 35.04 per cent, while minor party candidates received the remainder.
In Toowoomba South Mr Janetzki received 51.33 per cent of the vote.
Labor’s Susan Krause received 30.84 per cent, while minor party candidates received the rest.
