Months after opening a studio in Highfields, the Arise.Yoga team has expanded its operations back into the Toowoomba CBD.

The popular studio, which offers a range of yoga and pilates classes, has moved into a converted office space on Mylne st and is set to open next Monday.

“Our studio used to be in Harlaxton and that (space was converted into) a petrol station,” Arise.Yoga owner and teacher Terri Thornton said.

“I decided to move the studio out to Highfields, but I still had a lot of students who lived in Toowoomba and that was too far for them.

“So I thought, why not give it a go and have two studios and, in a business sense, it would create more jobs for my teachers.”

Ms Thornton said it had taken a few months to find a perfect location for the studio, but the Mylne St address offered parking and space.

“I looked at quite a few places, but as soon as I walked up the stairs here I fell in love,” Ms Thornton said.

“I think we were told it had been vacant for six years.

“It just had a really nice feel – once I found it there was no stopping us.”

She said the studio would accommodate small classes in an intimate setting.

“We have room for around 20 people and a teacher,” she said.

“I think people are approaching yoga more on a mindful note than (for) the physicality side.

“People are finally seeing the benefits of exercising the mind before or with the body.”

Joining Ms Thornton in the new studio is Gentle Balance owner Kris Lipp, who runs a kinesiology and massage service.

Ms Lipp also works alongside the team at the Highfields studio.

“I wanted to get my home business out of home, into the public spectrum, and Terri gave me an offer I couldn’t refuse,” Ms Lipp said.

“If your body isn’t working properly and you can’t do the yoga poses, or there’s pain or tension, then I’m the one (to see).”

Arise.Yoga will host an open day this Saturday from 11am to 1pm.
