Man arrested for indecent exposure
A public masturbator was arrested on Monday morning after allegedly indecently exposing himself in front of hikers at the South Hobart rivulet track.
Police arrested the man following reports of a man masturbating and following walkers near the peace garden between McKellar Street bridge and Molle Street.
A Tasmania Police spokesperon said a man has since been charged and is due to face court over his alleged actions.
“A 29-year-old man was arrested and charged with prohibited behaviour,” the spokesperson said.
“He’s expected to appear in court next week.”
Elderly man pleads guilty to cabin park hammer attack
AN ELDERLY man who hit the owner of a cabin park in Wynyard on the head with a hammer and tried to burn down the main residence on site has pleaded guilty to wounding and arson.
Wynyard man Ian Mackenzie, 81, entered his plea to a charge of wounding Cheryl Gilmour by hitting her to the head with a hammer in the Burnie Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Mr Mackenzie also pleaded guilty to arson to relation to the incident in November.
He entered a plea of not guilty to an aggravated burglary charge, however.
His lawyer Stephen Wright said Mr Mackenzie denied trespassing when he set fire to the residence at the Beach Retreat Park owned by Mrs Gilmour and her husband, Graeme.
Magistrate Glenn Hay remanded Mr MacKenzie in custody till his next appearance in the Burnie Supreme Court on January 31.
