Philadelphia newlyweds Colby Rebel and John Sender had more than just their honeymoon to celebrate on the Gold Coast.

“I can’t believe we just won the Super Bowl!” Ms Rebel said.

“We’re hardcore fans – my family is crazy about football.

“We were the underdogs and I was nervous but I was just thinking: ‘they’re not going to beat us again, we can do this, and we did it!”

The couple arrived at The Sporting Globe Surfers Paradise expecting to grab a seat easily, but to their surprise the venue was packed to the rim – with hundreds sporting either Chiefs headdresses or green and black jerseys and body paint.

“I couldn’t believe so many Aussies are fans of football,” Ms Rebel said.

“And even though everyone had their different jerseys on, we had so many people be so friendly and nice and it was awesome – it was way better than we ever imagined it.

“It felt like we were almost at home watching it.”

Even Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show got the tick of approval.

“He did a great job … hopefully, everyone else enjoyed it,” she said.

Sporting Globe co-owner Mark Vigus said Super Bowl Sunday has officially overtaken AFL and NRL Grand Final day at the venue, with more than 15,000 litres of beer and 25,000 wings consumed across its 22 locations nationwide.

“The appetite for the NFL just keeps growing – it’s become a must-watch event for so many sports fans,” he said.

“And with the NFL coming to Australia in 2026 … we don’t see the sport slowing down.”

The Eagles shattered The Chief’s dream of an unprecedented Super Bowl hat-trick, with a thumping 40-22 victory in New Orleans.
