Molly Rose, Adelaide Nova’s breakfast producer for Jodie & Hayesy, explains Anthony Albanese ‘prank’ call

The new breakfast radio producer has revealed what really happened during the Prime Minister’s “prank call”. Hear the audio.

Adelaide radio producer’s hilarious PM faux pas

Nova 919’s Molly Rose is seriously grateful Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is such a “good sport” after she mistook him for a prankster.

The 30-year-old, who is the new producer of the FM station’s Jodie & Haysey Breakfast Show, made headlines after her faux pas was revealed on-air.

On Thursday, brekky co-hosts Jodie Oddy and Andrew Hayes outed Molly, telling the PM and listeners she thought he was a Fringe performer.

But the PM was already in on the joke, as Molly explained exclusively to The Advertiser.

Asked if the whole thing was a radio stunt, Molly answers “definitely not” before revealing how it all unfolded.

“I genuinely had no idea if it was him or not,” she says.

“I took the call, he said, ‘Hello. This is Anthony Albanese’.”

Molly politely put the caller on hold and asked Jodie and Haysey, “Is this legitimately the Prime Minister?”.

When they confirmed it was the PM, Molly (who obviously hadn’t known he was scheduled to do a phone interview on the show) took him off hold.

“I said ‘Hello, Sir. I’m going to be honest, I thought this was a prank, and I did not realise it was legitimate. I am so sorry’,” Molly recalls, adding. “He was so funny. He was just chatting to me, and I said to him, ‘Obviously, you have a very recognisable voice, and a lot of people impersonate you’,

“And he said, ‘You should be telling me I have a lovely voice, actually’. So, he was a good sport about it.

“I think if I had just not wanted to admit that I made the mistake, you know, it might have gone very differently, but everyone’s human at the end of the day, like, I’m human, so is Anthony Albanese.”

Molly also explains to The Advertiser: “The guys (Jodie and Haysey) had pranked me the day before, so that’s why I was just not 100 per cent sure, especially with Fringe going on.”

She adds: “It was a nice moment for the show”.

“(It) kind of brought us all together, and we were able to laugh about it,” she says, adding: “And the fact that these guys can take a moment like that and go, ‘Oh, this is funny. Let’s make this a thing’ has just reaffirmed that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be … I’m with the right team.”

Molly who had ambitions of becoming an actor ended up in radio after she enrolled in Sean Craig Murphy’s Australian Radio School.

She was snapped up by a station in Port Augusta and then headhunted by Power FM in Murray Bridge.

Prior to joining Nova a fortnight ago, she was at rival station Triple M.

But it sounds like Molly has made the right move because she will soon also be hosting national weekend shifts across the Nova Network.
