Bernie Vince and Emma G to host SAFM’s new breakfast radio show, taking over from Mark Soderstrom and Rebecca Morse

Days after Mark Soderstrom’s shock departure from SAFM breakfast radio, the station has confirmed the future of Rebecca Morse and its plans for a revamped show in 2025.

Bernie Vince will lead a revamped SAFM breakfast radio show next month, after the station confirmed the departure of Rebecca Morse.

Former Crow Vince will be joined by Emma ‘Emma G’ Georgiadis on the new-look program, which kick off on November 11.

The announcement comes just days after Bec and Soda co-host Mark Soderstrom revealed he was stepping away from breakfast radio, and confirms speculation that longtime presenter Morse has not been offered a contract for 2025.

Southern Cross Austereo chief content officer Dave Cameron said Soderstrom’s decision came “out of the blue” but gave the station the opportunity this week to assess their breakfast timeslot.

He said Vince and Georgiadis had previously worked together on Triple M’s The Rush Hour, and their on-air chemistry was obvious.

“It was a pretty easy coupling for us to be able to wrap our head around because we’ve heard it before,” Cameron said.

“We knew how good it would sound … so this was an obvious opportunity for us that was just waiting in the wings – and we made a decision on that quickly.”

Vince said he’s thrilled to tackle the new role alongside his former Rush Hour colleague and good friend Georgiadis.

“She is a star, I couldn’t have hand-picked a better partner in crime,” he said.

“I can’t wait to get started with this amazing opportunity for the both of us, to build something new, even though we’ve worked together on-air for several years.”

Vince’s elevation to the coveted breakfast timeslot comes a month after his Rush Hour drivetime sports show with Andrew Jarman and Greg Blewett, was axed by sister station Triple M.

The top-rating weekday program has been dumped in favour of a syndicated Melbourne version, presented by James Brayshaw and Billy Brownless.

A 20-year veteran of the media industry, Adelaide-born Georgiadis previously anchored Vince’s Rush Hour program and was most recently co-host of the Hit Network’s national Late Nights show, The Pulse.

“Bern has a magnetic energy and is a legend to work with,” she said.

“As a passionate Adelaidean, I’m super excited to be back on the airwaves in my hometown, and on the station I listened to and loved growing up.”

Earlier this week, Soderstrom shocked listeners by announcing he was quitting breakfast radio at the end of the year to face the “biggest challenge of his life”.

“Life has changed for me recently and I’m facing the biggest challenge of my life and I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and it’s been pretty tough,” said Soderstrom, who joined Morse on SAFM’s breakfast show in January 2023.

“It’s not even a decision I have to make – it’s something I have to do because I have a fair bit on my plate.”

The Advertiser understands that Soderstrom has decided to prioritise time with his young family ahead of the demands of breakfast radio.

His departure left the future of Morse uncertain, and speculation only intensified when the pair were absent from the airwaves on Thursday and Friday morning.
