Mark Soderstrom has quit breakfast radio as he faces the “biggest challenge of his life”.
The popular Adelaide media personality made the announcement on-air during his SAFM early morning show this week, telling listeners that he was left with no choice but to step away from the microphone.
“Life has changed for me recently and I’m facing the biggest challenge of my life and I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and it’s been pretty tough,” he said alongside co-host Rebecca Morse.
“I have the three most important reasons in my life why I have to tell you that I have to make the decision to step away from breakfast radio.
“It’s not even a decision I have to make – it’s something I have to do because I have a fair bit on my plate.”
The Advertiser understands that Soderstrom has decided to prioritise time with his young family ahead of the demands of breakfast radio.
Soderstrom, who joined Morse on SAFM’s breakfast radio show at the start of 2023, said he was going to “miss the job”.
“I actually wish I didn’t have to do this. I love doing this job more than any job in my life,” he said.
Soderstrom will continue on-air until the end of the year, and remain as 7NEWS Adelaide weekday sports presenter.
Morse’s future at SAFM is now under a cloud following her co-host’s departure. The Bec & Soda show was in sixth place in the timeslot in the latest radio ratings, behind Mix 102.3, Nova 919, FIVEaa, ABC and Triple M.
Soderstrom was previously co-host of Mix 102.3’s then top-rating breakfast show for eight years, before he quit in December 2021.
He took a year off radio before replacing Andrew ‘Cosi’ Costello at SAFM in January last year.
