Triple M axes top-rating Adelaide Rush Hour show, hosted by Andrew Jarman, Bernie Vince and Greg Blewett

The station’s top-rating drivetime show has been dumped in favour of their Melbourne counterparts, and outraged local listeners have slammed the ‘ridiculous’ decision. Have your say.

Triple M Adelaide's Rush Hour axed

Radio station Triple M has axed its top-rating Adelaide drivetime show in favour of a syndicated Melbourne version.

The Rush Hour hosts Andrew Jarman, Bernie Vince and Greg Blewett were told on Tuesday their weekday sports program will be dumped at the end of the year.

It’s understood that the Adelaide show will be replaced by its sister program in Melbourne, presented by James Brayshaw and Billy Brownless.

The local trio has hosted Rush Hour together since the start of 2021, and in the most recent radio ratings at the end of August, were no. 1 in their timeslot, well ahead of main competitors, FIVEaa’s sports show with Stephen Rowe and Tim Ginever.

Retired Australian cricketer Blewett confirmed the news on Wednesday, describing it as a “bit of a shock”.

“It doesn’t make sense to any of us,” said the Triple M and Channel 7 cricket commentator.

“Obviously our show was going great and we were rating really well but it’s a management decision in regards to the business. Unfortunately we’re the ones that have to pay the price.

“It was a tough day yesterday. Everyone’s families are feeling it, we’re feeling it... we’ll take the rest of the week off to let the dust settle.”

The program will be off-air for the rest of the week and return on Monday, and will continue until about mid-November.

The trio’s radio future remains clouded, including that of beloved former Crow Jarman, who celebrated 21 years on-air at Triple M in November last year.

A Southern Cross Austereo spokesperson confirmed that Triple M Adelaide’s The Rush Hour will finish at the end of 2024.

“Further detail regarding the 2025 Drive show will be provided in due course,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

“Bernie Vince, Greg Blewett and Andrew Jarman have been outstanding broadcasters as part of the Triple M family, and we thank them for their incredible contributions.”

A local radio industry source said the decision to cull the Adelaide show was likely a “cost-cutting” decision.

“What it shows is that even if you rate, you’re not safe,” the source said.

“It’s no reflection on the work from those boys – it’s just a cost-saving measure. It’s all about making money and saving money these days.”

Prior to Blewett’s arrival, Jarman and Vince hosted Rush Hour in 2020, and before that, Jarman presented the show with former Sydney Swan Dale Lewis.
