Men charged with murder of Bradley Frost at Modbury withdraw bail bids

Two men charged over the alleged bashing murder of a Modbury man face a 10-month delay they say is “excessive”, a court has heard.

Two men charged over the bashing murder of a Modbury man have withdrawn their bids for bail, as prosecutors asked a court for an “excessive” 10-month adjournment.

The two men, whose identities are suppressed, each appeared separately in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday charged with the bashing murder of Bradley Frost in front of his Victoria Drive home on March 16.

During a hearing for the first of the men arrested, prosecutors asked the court to delay the next hearing for 10 months to allow for the gathering of forensic evidence including DNA testing.

Mark Twiggs, for the 32-year-old Modbury North man, said the delay sought was excessive and asked the matter return to court before Christmas. Magistrate Ben Sale set a date in December, noting he would expect an update on the progress of the investigation before further adjourning the case for charge determination in 2024.

Mr Twiggs also asked to withdraw his client’s bid for bail, as the man was not yet charged with murder at the time of his arrest. The more serious charge of murder means the arrested man must prove he has to prove his client special circumstances to allow for his release on bail.

Ben Thilthorpe, for the second man, also withdrew his client’s bid for bail and said the adjournment sought was “far too long”.

His client, a 33-year-old Ingle Farm man, was remanded in custody until September.

In an earlier hearing, the court heard the second man charged over Mr Frost’s murder had handed himself into police.

The Ingle Farm man, whose identity is suppressed due to ongoing identification procedures, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court via video link on March 21 from the City Watchhouse charged with murder.

He was allegedly one of two men on push bikes who violently attacked Bradley Frost in front of his Victoria Drive home, just after 3pm on Thursday, March 16.

Emergency Services rushed Mr Frost to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where he died on Friday.

Mr Thilthorpe, for the man, said his client had “surrendered himself to police” on Tuesday morning.

He asked the court to adjourn the matter to next week when he was expecting to ask the court to release his client on bail.

“There will be an application for bail, I just need an opportunity to collate some materials in support of that application,” he said.

The court appearance followed the arrest of a 32-year-old Modbury North man shortly after the attack on Friday who is already facing charges over the death.

Police have advised the public that the incident was not a random attack.

Mr Frost is remembered by neighbours as a “beautiful soul” who was “always willing to help”.

Leonie and Micheal Fraser told The Advertiser that Mr Frost was “the light” of Victoria Drive and was a “groovy neighbour” they thought of as family.

“We’re all really sad because Brad was a well-loved member of the community, especially our street,” Ms Fraser said.

“We’ve only lived here about six years and he’s been like a family member since we moved in.”

Niranjan Dasari, another Victoria Drive resident, referred to Mr Frost as a “gentle giant”.

“He was a really nice person and doesn’t deserve the ending that he got,” he said.

“When someone’s in need, he jumps in – there’s no hesitation.”
