Shelfield Coffee brews up a storm at a new Toowoomba location

A popular cafe that started life in central Queensland is making the jump to the Garden City, and the owners have some big plans for their new CBD location.

A new Toowoomba cafe is promising to deliver “Melbourne standard” quality to a tight cafe market, just metres from the centre of the CBD.

Shelfield Coffee Brewers owner Peter Jeon said he had always dreamt of bringing delicious, premium coffee to rural Queensland.

While studying in Sydney, Mr Jeon developed his love for coffee working as a barista.

Mr Jeon moved to Emerald with his wife so she could work as a teacher in rural schools.

In 2017, he opened his first coffee shop intending to serve up delicious “Melbourne standard” coffee to locals.

Wanting to branch out after managing two successful businesses out in Emerald, Mr Jeon thought Toowoomba was the perfect choice for his next cafe location.

Shelfield Coffee Brewers is expected to open its Toowoomba cafe on October 9 on Ruthven Street.

”When I announced that my new store was opening soon, I was surprised to find that so many of my Emerald regulars had family and friends down in Toowoomba,” Mr Jeon said.

“It’s a great location, and because it can get really cold it’s perfect coffee weather.”

Mr Jeon will use beans from Pablo and Rusty Coffee Roasters, and rotate different single origin coffee beans every month from around the globe.

Customers can purchase fresh baked goods made in-store.

Mr Jeon will also run coffee classes, where customers can learn about the art of creating specialty coffee.

“I believe there’s already a good coffee culture in Toowoomba, and I want Shelfield Coffee Brewers to be a part of that so we can make Toowoomba’s coffee culture the same standard as Melbourne or Sydney,” Mr Jeon said.

“I plan to open more shops in other parts of country Queensland … rural Queensland deserves to have high-quality coffee too.”

The announcement comes as The Coffee Club is set to open in Grand Central, just a short distance from the pre-existing store on Margaret Street.

Shelfield Coffee Brewers is expected to open on October 9 at 456 Ruthven Street.
