Hundreds of bands took to the stage of four separate locations in Toowoomba, all in the name of spreading joy.
It was a weekend of firsts, with the inaugural Toowoomba Gospel Festival coming to a close on Sunday and while hosting an event of its size was a new experience for organiser Paul Priman, it’s one he hopes to relive each year.
Designed to spread joy in the community, after two years of event cancellations due to Covid, Mr Priman said the music festival supported grassroots talent and drew in a large crowd.
“Running for three days, it has been a revolving crowd where people are constantly coming back and forth, so it’s hard to say, but I would definitely say there were thousands in the four locations,” he said.
“The atmosphere was great – people were eating dinner and listening to the music and others were up singing and dancing.”
Jesus King of Kings Evangelistic Ministries director and performer J.L Rathbone said he was wholeheartedly on-board when approached to perform at the event.
“I came to Toowoomba two years ago with the idea of doing a travelling music ministry, so when Paul contacted me about the possibility of this event, I was already signed up in my mind,” he said.
“These kinds of events are what are going to crack this country open and from an artist’s point of view, this platform is exactly what we need to be able to perform Australian Christian music.”
